Just admit it. Windows 10 is trash. Here are my reasons:
Theres no consistency in Windows 10. Not in icons, where there's like a hundred different styles, there's also Win32 and .NET/C# apps all mixed up, with the Win32 ones needing injections just for theming support, its all a fucking mess.
If you use Windows 10, Microsoft probably owns you. You can't fully disable windows defender, windows update is EXTREMELY forced and theres Microsoft Spyware that you can't fully disable, and the stuff you CAN disable you have to literally look everywhere in settings. Come on guys, Ubuntu has literally one checkbox to disable all telemetry. Hell, now you can't even create a user account in windows without a Microsoft account.
Windows is extremely locked down. For theming you need patchers, rainmeter, and you need to go surfing external websites and a lot of deviantart just to find themes.
Let's take KDE Plasma for comparison. You can literally apply full system themes in 4 clicks: Open system settings, click Look and Feel, select your global theme and BOOM. Login screen (SDDM), splash screen, application style - all adjusted. No need for rainmeters - it natively supports widgets on the desktop. Hell, you can literally remove all Taskbars, change how big and wide the taskbar is, theres also an official dock app, you can choose how application window titles are aligned, you can choose how and where the buttons in the title bar are positioned, you can change the color of the window frame, literally everything - customizable. They even have their own store for themes.
And that's just the official KDE stuff. You also have stuff like Kvantum and they don't break on each update.
What do you get from Microsoft? Enable dark mode, change system color and change the wallpaper. Anything extra? Patchers that break on every update, rainmeter themes that are super laggy, that sorta crap.
Windows update is TERRIBLE. It can force you to upgrade from Win7 to Win10, hell windows update can interrupt your gaming stream.
Linux? Oh sure we will just update the entire core of the system and the kernel in the background without a restart go back to your game now :)
Windows - Starts at 100$, ends at 1000$ GNU/Linux or *BSD - Most distros are free
Windows is SUPER vulnerable BY DESIGN.
You have to go digging into the internet to find the installer for that one application and then every single application will have an auto-updater that start each time you boot your computer.
And some installers even come with adware/spyware like Mccaffe stuff and web toolbars.
Sure, theres the microsoft store but you need an Micro$oft account to download anything and a lot of the apps you know and love either aren't there or the version that is there is just a dumbed down version to comply with MS Store rules and locked-downness of UWP.
Then theres linux where you can apt-get whatever your heart desires. Instead of dumbed-down versions in the stores, there's REAL SOFTWAE like Firefox, LibreOffice, GIMP, Inkscape, LMMS, VS Code, and other software that isn't just a dumbed-down version, meaning you don't have to look on shady websites just to get that one app.
On windows, you don't get a lot of choice. What you get is the default login screen and explorer.exe
On linux - Like that other package manager more than this one? Sure, hop distros. Like that Desktop Environment more than your current one? Sure, swap it out! Hell, you can even swap out the kernel in Manjaro with a few clicks.
On windows, you're stuck with what Micro$oft gives you. On Linux you have a LOT of choice There are a LOT more reasons and I could keep going on, but I'll let you figure out the rest your self.
Some AMAZING linux distributions for you to hop on to: (not in any particular order)
Ubuntu (I prefer Kubuntu over Ubuntu) Kubuntu Lubuntu pop_OS! Manjaro Linux Fedora Workstation
For the advanced users (advanced in Linux, not windows):
Arch Linux Manjaro Linux Architect Gentoo Linux Void Linux
